Road Trip Tales!

Hi Everyone!

I hope you are all having a great week.

Today we are going to be talking about one of my favourite topics, road trips. You only have to look as far as my instagram account to see that I love jumping in the car and going to random places to explore within the UK and there is also my almost annual expedition to Iceland to mix things up.

I guess it’s the ultimate feeling of freedom, that you can move around as you wish without the confines of public transport timetables and of course costs. For me personally, driving works out far much more cost efficient particularly if you go on a proper road trip to multiple places within a day. In some cases for the more rural locations that are off the beaten track you just can’t access them easily unless you do drive there. Some of the towns I’ve been to down south don’t even have train lines so it would literally take hours longer to get there and you would be limited as to where you can go.

Some of my all-time favourite road trip memories have to be from Iceland really, it was my first holiday where we had the flexibility of having a car to go around it and it was great to be able to deviate from the standard tourist sites and not have the stress of tour bus timetables. We drove to some of the most stunning black sand beaches, lava fields, round the beautiful Lake Myvatn and my absolute standout moment was when we drove up the side of a mountain to go and see the northern lights as the further you can escape light pollution, the better view you will get.

Also most weekends that my boyfriend stays over with me in Hertfordshire we go for mini adventures like last weekend when we visited the Ashridge Estate and Ivinghoe Beacon which were so pretty! There’s nothing better than a nice romantic countryside wander followed by a yummy dinner in a homely little country pub.

When you are embarking on a road trip it’s important to remember to prepare properly beforehand, make sure you check the oil and water levels, that your lights are working, brakes are functional, that your tyres are pumped up and to the correct tread depth and if not to replace them using a service like Point S tyres to make sure that you are travelling as safely as possible. Always keep water and a few items of food as well just in case you get stuck in long traffic or lost in the countryside, I usually take a big bottle of Volvic and some cereal bars and crisps with me just so I know they are there if I fancy them.

I would love to hear any tips you have for road trips in the comments below, also tell me where you’ve been or where you’re planning on going!

I hope you enjoyed this post and thanks for reading! Love Sally X

Gas Safety Information

Hi Guys!

Today is going to be an important post that is a bit serious but in theory would be relevant to all of us and it is talking about gas safety.

Flogas are creating an e-book at the moment all about gas safety in the home and ahead of this I wanted to have a little discussion here on the blog and offer my own tips.

When it comes to gas safety it's really important to make sure that your appliances are being fitted properly and maintained by professional, Gas Safe registered engineers for optimum peace of mind. When things malfunction due to errors made the risks are very real and include explosions, leaks, potential fires and also the danger of CO poisoning, all really scary but ultimately avoidable.

Carbon Monoxide poisoning is really hard to detect as it's not as if you can see it, taste it or smell it in the same way as normal gas so having an alarm (that works and is regularly maintained/checked) should be a priority. It is only around £15 and can be found in most high street hardware stores so there is really no excuse not to get one for your home, always check for the relevant compliance with the British Standard EN 50291 and the relevant approval mark.

In the event you suspect something is off like smelling gas, your best bet would be to evacuate the property and give the Gas Safety advice line a call on 0800 300 363. I think on these things it's better to be safe than sorry and you should always be really diligent about smells, if you see visible fumes or can taste something different in the air around your house.

Let me know your tips on gas safety below in the comments, I'd love to hear them.

Father's Day Gift Idea - Monopoly Empire

Hi Guys!

Today I have another instalment in my Father's Day gift ideas series and it is all focused around having fun and spending time together.

One of my favourite things to do as a family is after dinner to sit down and play a good board game, so this new version of the ever popular classic monopoly looks awesome!

In the Monopoly Empire game*, players can own the world's top brands. After choosing one of the uniquely branded tokens, players move around the board, and start building their empires. The game is a race to the top as players buy their favourite brands one by one and fill their towers. Players can own famous brands, including Nerf, Transformers, Levi's, and more. Opponents collect rent from their rivals; the higher their tower, the more they can charge! For two to four players, the first player to fill their tower with billboards wins!

The game retails at £19.99 available at games/toy retailers and is a guaranteed family hit!

Let me know your favourite board games and monopoly editions below, I'd love to hear them.

Father's Day Gift Idea - Mighty Fine Honeycomb

Hi Guys!

I hope you are all well.

Today is the next segment of my Father's Day Gift Ideas series and we are going to be talking food, specifically sweet treats!

Mighty Fine Honeycomb are a company that started off selling adventurously-flavoured, handmade chocolates from a small shop in Camden Market and did incredibly well, most of all with their honeycomb varieties which were selling quicker than they could make them. This led the team to dedicate over a 1000 hours to perfecting their recipe to eventually relaunch as the finest honeycomb company this side of anywhere!

Their range breaks down into a selection of honeycomb dips which are gorgeous honeycomb pieces dipped in chocolate, all handmade and from natural ingredients. Then there are the honeycomb bars which are bars of honeycomb enrobed in tasty chocolate. Both product lines come in different flavours such as salted caramel, milk chocolate, dark chocolate and peanut butter.

I've tried the salted caramel honeycomb dips* which were gorgeous, they give a satisfying crunch and the milk chocolate is infused with caramel meaning the whole bite is just this amazingly indulgent mouth experience. Yummy!! The same can be said for the milk chocolate honeycomb bar*, the flavour, the texture and general tasting experience is delicious and I wouldn't hesitate to have it again quite frankly!

You can view the whole range and read more about the company on www.mightyfine.co and if you want to make a purchase you can do so online or using the handy store locator.

Discovering My Inner Rock Chick in Charlotte's Beauty Boudoir

Hi Everyone!

Today is a ridiculously exciting post to bring to you and it is talking about my makeover experience in Charlotte Tilbury's flagship Covent Garden Beauty Boudoir.

I have very recently fallen back in love with makeup in a huge huge way, I think we can all be guilty of finding a look that works for us and just sticking with it which is absolutely fine but lately I've been pining for a change and wanting to switch things up a bit. This led me over to Charlotte's Youtube channel, which is amazing, I have binge watched pretty much every single video on there and I just fell in love with her style as a person and her products so I just had to go in and give them a try for myself.

On the website there are various in-house workshops you can sign up for and the cost is redeemable against purchases, so if you are planning to buy something you can basically receive a free makeover and full demonstration on how to use the products to achieve any of her signature looks.
You have the option to pre-choose the look you think best suits your style or alternatively your artist can advise you on what they think. I wanted to be bold and try something really different so I went for the Rock Chick look which my artist Veronica agreed would be awesome!

THE ROCK CHICK

SHE’S THE COOLEST GIRL AROUND: THE ROCK CHICK MESMERISES WITH SULTRY, SMOKY EYES, NUDE-TONED LIPS AND TOUSLED HAIR. ALL WORN WITH AN AIR OF NONCHALANCE FOR THAT ENVIABLE, “I’M NOT TRYING” GLAMOUR.

I went in with no makeup on, ready for something special to be created, here is my before picture. In terms of skin I would say I generally have quite clear skin that maybe is a touch dry at times. My usual makeup routine would be moisturiser as a base, Diorskin Forever foundation, maybe a smidge of Collection Lasting Perfection concealer under my eyes, then I layer my mascara starting with Benefit They're Real then putting YSL Babydoll over the top.

The makeover lasted an hour in total and went through each stage starting with skincare where Charlotte's magic cream was applied as a base. This product was named that by the models Charlotte would use it on backstage earlier in her career as it was her own secret formula and had a magical plumping and smoothing effect on the skin. I fell in love with it instantly. I also had their lip magic applied to my lips at the start so that throughout the makeover my lips could really moisturise and start to feel hydrated.

I was asked whether I was looking for a natural or more full coverage finish and I always lean to full coverage just because I like that really flawless look so she applied the Magic Foundation in shade 2 which was a perfect match for me. I then had the Retoucher concealer applied to any redness and under the eyes to brighten up that area, the whole face was then set with Airbrush Flawless Finish Powder in light. After that I was shown how to contour and highlight using the Filmstar Bronze and Glow palette in shade light, it perfectly sculpted my cheekbones and gave real dimension to my face. I absolutely loved the effect and will be trying it out the future. Then we used the Cheek to Chic blush in First Love which gives a really subtle add of peachy colour and glow.

Next we moved on to the eyes. We filled in my brows with the Browlift pencil in Cara D named after the amazing Cara Delevingne who gives me serious brown envy! After this we worked in a clockwise fashion around the Rock Chick Luxury Eyeshadow Palette, starting with the inner corners, the crease, the outer corner and then the centre of the eyelid. We lined my waterline and lashline with the Rock 'N' Kohl Eyeliner in bedroom black which we smudged out for a really smoky look. My lashes were then coated in Full Fat Lashes Mascara which lengthens and add volume without any clumps and in fact does really well at separating the lashes and coats even the tiny little ones at the edges for a really awesome effect.

Lastly we did the lips, they were lined using the Lip Cheat liner pencil in Iconic Nude which is a "your lips but better" type shade and really helps make your lips look fuller. On top of this we applied lipstick in Nude Kate, named after Kate Moss as it is that kind of perfect nude colour she is known for. Then we added in a bit of shine and sparkle with Lip Lustre in Blondie.

This is the end look and my before and after! I absolutely love it and it was easily the best that my makeup has ever looked, I was dying to show my boyfriend but had to send selfies as we were in different parts of London that night.

As a whole, I literally couldn't recommend the experience more, getting to see Charlotte's beautiful flagship store to go shopping, having a makeover by one of her team and getting to learn how to use the products in the best way. For any makeup lover it is an absolute must do experience.

You will see in future posts the looks I make with the products that I bought and I can't wait to show you guys my interpretation of all the skills I've picked up.

I hope you enjoyed this post, let me know your thoughts below on Charlotte Tilbury products and her Covent Garden store!

Father's Day Gift Idea - Scruffs

Hey Guys!

Today brings us to the next instalment in my Father's Day gift ideas series and today we are going to be looking at a brand called Scruffs!

Scruffs specialise in men's and women's workwear and safety footwear and are the UK's leading workwear brand when it comes to style, function and performance. Their designs are really innovative using high-tech materials and are the perfect mix of being practical while still looking good.

In their range they have a variety of items, a great selection of footwear, tops, trousers, shorts and outerwear like jackets. I was kindly sent an Expedition Double Zip Jacket* to review and share my experience of so stay keep reading to hear all about it!

First of all the sizing is spot on, I ordered a small for my boyfriend and it fits perfectly. The item description states it is a relaxed fit which I would agree with, so fine to wear a jumper underneath and have room under the double zip fastening at the front.

The jacket is made of a nice thick and durable nylon, is padded around the body part and has a microfleece lined hood which can be tightened with the toggles. The ribbed cuffs also will be perfect for keeping in heat and feeling all cosy and insulated. The material feels very high quality and I can definitely see this as an item that will last for years, not bad for a price of £59.95 in my opinion!

The jacket, while being really functional in the sense that it is ridiculously cosy and warm, still looks really smart and fashionable. Whether it's for your dad or partner I think it will really hit the spot.

I have also included some of my top picks below from the range that I think would make really good gifts.

And these Worker Lite Shorts would be good for summer!

The whole range can be found on www.scruffs.com and I think there are some great pieces to be picked up at really reasonable prices for high quality, durable items that are built to last.

What do you guys think? Let me know in the comments below.

Father's Day Gift Idea - Wilkinson Sword Hydro 5 Sensitive Razor

Hi Everyone!

How are you all doing?

Today we have the next post in my Father's Day gift ideas series and it is going to be discussing the new Wilkinson Sword Hydro 5 Sensitive Razor*. This razor has been specifically designed for men with sensitive skin, prone to irritation and is dematologist tested.

The razor comes with five blades and has a water activated gel reservoir with aloe vera in it that lubricates each shave for more comfort and less irritation. With a flip of the thumb the gel reservoir flips back to expose all of the five blades helping to trim in tight spaces.

The five ultraglide blades come with innovative skin guards which help smooth the surface of the skin and lessen any drag and therefore the likelihood of irritation, making it perfect for sensitive skin.

This is a really nice option for any loved ones that want to try out a new razor and that have suffered from irritation while shaving before using a standard model that isn't specially geared towards sensitive skin types.

You can purchase the razor at most major retailers and the RRP is £11.99 with additional refill blades available to purchase separately.

I hope you found this idea useful and don't forget to check out my other posts in the Father's Day gift ideas series.

Botanicals Soothing Salve in Lavender & Chamomile Review

Hi Everyone!

I hope you're all well.

Today I am bringing you a long awaited review of an award winning product that I have tested out for a few months after being kindly sent a sample from Botancials, it is of their Soothing Salve*.

I have reviewed Botanicals before and had a really good experience so was super excited to give this a go, you can check out my previous review of their Balancing Mask in Green Clay & Avocado here!

So a little bit about this product, it's a nourishing natural salve to soothe, soften and protect the skin. It soothes conditions like eczema and chapped skin and also works as a great after-sun product to restore moisture to your skin. The balm is made completely from active plant derived ingredients and these helps support the skin's natural ability to heal and regenerate new skin cells. Sounds pretty good right?

So, to use it you only need the smallest amount meaning a little goes a long way. Take a pea sized amount and massage in until it's absorbed, the texture is nice and rich without any greasy residue so absorbs in nice and quickly giving an immediate soothing and moisturising effect.

My elbows are particularly problematic when it comes to dry and irritated skin and I can say after a couple of weeks of using the salve it really helped to clear up the dry patches and they look visibly better. I've also used it to replace out my usual hand cream and it's kept my hands lovely and soft with a really nice scent as well. With summer coming up I'll be keeping a tub in the fridge to apply to any sunburn or just heat irritated skin as it would be absolutely perfect for that.

I would recommend this salve to anyone, but particularly to those suffering from sensitive, dry or irritated skin as I think it would be the most effective and work the best.

You can check out the Botanicals full range on http://www.botanicals.co.uk/ as they have a whole plethora of different products to try out and read up on.

I hope you liked this post, let me know your thoughts on Botanicals products in the comments below.

Father's Day Gift Idea - Lotil Original Cream

Hi Everyone!

Hope you are having a nice week so far.

Today is going to be another Father's Day gift idea for you and it is for Lotil's Original Cream*. I should point out that I have included it in my gift guide series but it can be used by men or women and is great for anyone suffering from dry skin.

In terms of practical products this is a great one, you can use it everyday and it is super cheap but with great benefits for the skin.

Lotil have been going for over 100 years now and their original cream gently rehydrates dry skin to provide maximum moisture and protection. It helps to heal dry, chapped or cracked skin and also helps to guard against potential infections due to the anti-bacterial, anti-fungal and anti-sceptic properties.

The formula is very rich and hydrating but importantly non-greasy in texture meaning it absorbs in nicely and gets to work on your skin quickly. You will get the best results if you do incorporate it into your daily routine as is often the case with moisturising creams and to apply you simply massage into the skin until it is absorbed, after you have washed your face or before going to bed.

You can pick up a tube in all good pharmacies, I'd recommend checking out Boots or Lloyds Pharmacy in particular and Boots sell a 50ml tube for £3.59 or a 114ml tub for £6.29 which is the even more cost efficient option.

I hope you liked this post, let me know if you have tried out Lotil by leaving me a comment below.

Summer Music Festivals - My Essentials This Year

Hey Everyone!

I hope you are all well and having a nice week.

Today we are going to be talking about summer music festivals! I did a series last year sharing some of my top picks on fashion, footwear and other bits and bobs which hopefully I'm going to do again this year. Today's post is going to be a super quick checklist on some of the key things that I will be taking with me this year and that hopefully you will find useful.

First of all, this year I will be taking multiple portable phone charging banks. My phone is an absolute nightmare when it comes to rinsing the battery and I want to make sure I can get hold of my friends at all times and also be able to take photos on the go to share with you guys on Instagram! I'll be looking for ones that are lightweight and have a high storage capacity to make sure they last as long as possible.

Next, I'll be taking a sturdy water bottle. There are always taps to fill up from and I want to make sure that I am hydrated throughout the day as when it's hot and you are doing loads of walking and dancing, it is really easy to start feeling a bit faint and dehydrated if you don't have enough liquid which can be really dangerous.

I'll also be taking some fun fashion items, I'll have a minimum of one flower crown (probably more), some custom printed t-shirts for me and the girl gang to wear together and then nice jewellery such as personalised wristbands from https://www.welovewristbands.com/ where you can create your own designs and make them look really cool.

This year I must remember to make sure I pack a more heavy duty fold up chair, the one I took last time was absolutely knackered after a few days and I want to get a proper metal frame camping style one as when you're sat around your tent chilling out, the last thing you want is a wobbly cheap one that you fear will collapse at any second (it didn't thankfully).

Another good thing to take would be a supply of plastic carrier bags. I cannot even tell you how handy these come in for carrying food, dirty clothes or shoes, drinks, keeping stuff clean and meaning you can pack it all in your case without mixing everything in together. Take a good 5-10 and you wont regret it, they take up next to no space as well.

I hope you found these useful, if you want to see a full festival checklist post tell me in the comments below and I can try and put something together.

My Warner Bros Father's Day Experience

Hi Guys!

Today is a super exciting new post about an event I went to on Thursday ran by Warner Bros specially for Father's Day. There was an exclusive screening at their private theatre in Holborn of the film Creed and I was invited to go along with a plus one so I took my boyfriend for a nice little date night out and we had such a great time.

We went straight after work from our office and just hopped on the tube a few stops and before we knew it we arrived at Warner Bros head quarters.

After being given our visitor passes we went into a room full of tasty snacks and drinks where we had the chance to network with other bloggers and see what everyone is up to.

Then at 7pm we went into the private preview theatre with luxurious comfy seats to watch Creed which was a really awesome film in the Rocky series about boxing.

After the event we were given an amazing goody bag full of Warner Bros films for us to watch at home together and a special Creed scarf. It really was a fantastic night and I feel so lucky that I was able to experience it, going to the cinema or theatre with family and friends is always such good fun and a great way to spend quality time together.

What are you guys up to for Father's Day? Let me know in the comments below!

Father's Day Gift Idea - Caledonian Brewery Craft Ales

Hi Everyone!

Today is another instalment in my father's day gift ideas series and I'm going to be sharing two recently launched craft beers by the Edinburgh based Caledonian Brewery.

Craft beers have really taken off in the past couple of years with microbreweries and beer festivals becoming really popular. Craft beers offer an alternative to the usual varieties, all giving tasty new flavours and drinking experiences, perfect for a present for your dad this father's day!

First there is the Three Hop craft lager*, a deliciously flavoursome and crisp lager that is brewed with three of Europe's finest hops from some of the great brewing regions across the continent. It is 4.5% ABV and has spicy and herbal aromas with notes of honey and mint.

Then there is the Coast to Coast polished bronze ale*, brewed with American hops imported from the Yakima Valley in Washington State and then married with British East Coast maritime malt. It's a well balanced and characterful beer with citrus aromas and flavours complimented by a smooth and rounded bitter finish.

Both beers are really quite delicious and very different from each other, a great addition to the existing range at Caledonian Brewery. You can purchase either beer at £2 per bottle in major retailers nationwide and some pubs and bars so keep an eye out!

You can read more information about Caledonian Brewery and their products over on http://www.caledonianbeer.com/.

I hope you are all having a nice week.

Today is going to be focusing on a Father's Day gift idea, the Braun beard trimmer*. Whether your dad has a full on beard or is styling designer stubble it's a really great idea for a present that is both practical and inexpensive.

The trimmer can be used wet or dry, comes with a detachable trimming comb for flexibility and also has a precision comb with 20 length settings to choose from so your dad can pick whichever one fits with their preference. The ultra sharp stainless steel blades cut easily through long or thick hair easily as well and are lifetime lasting so wont need replacement.

The trimmer comes with rechargeable batteries and on a full charge can be used for 50 minutes of cordless constant power which I think is pretty good. It's also super easy to clean, you just run it under a tap and rinse off.
