Summer Music Festivals - My Essentials This Year

Hey Everyone!

I hope you are all well and having a nice week.

Today we are going to be talking about summer music festivals! I did a series last year sharing some of my top picks on fashion, footwear and other bits and bobs which hopefully I'm going to do again this year. Today's post is going to be a super quick checklist on some of the key things that I will be taking with me this year and that hopefully you will find useful.

First of all, this year I will be taking multiple portable phone charging banks. My phone is an absolute nightmare when it comes to rinsing the battery and I want to make sure I can get hold of my friends at all times and also be able to take photos on the go to share with you guys on Instagram! I'll be looking for ones that are lightweight and have a high storage capacity to make sure they last as long as possible.

Next, I'll be taking a sturdy water bottle. There are always taps to fill up from and I want to make sure that I am hydrated throughout the day as when it's hot and you are doing loads of walking and dancing, it is really easy to start feeling a bit faint and dehydrated if you don't have enough liquid which can be really dangerous.

I'll also be taking some fun fashion items, I'll have a minimum of one flower crown (probably more), some custom printed t-shirts for me and the girl gang to wear together and then nice jewellery such as personalised wristbands from https://www.welovewristbands.com/ where you can create your own designs and make them look really cool.

This year I must remember to make sure I pack a more heavy duty fold up chair, the one I took last time was absolutely knackered after a few days and I want to get a proper metal frame camping style one as when you're sat around your tent chilling out, the last thing you want is a wobbly cheap one that you fear will collapse at any second (it didn't thankfully).

Another good thing to take would be a supply of plastic carrier bags. I cannot even tell you how handy these come in for carrying food, dirty clothes or shoes, drinks, keeping stuff clean and meaning you can pack it all in your case without mixing everything in together. Take a good 5-10 and you wont regret it, they take up next to no space as well.

I hope you found these useful, if you want to see a full festival checklist post tell me in the comments below and I can try and put something together.

Summer Festivals - Survival Guide

Hey Everyone!

Today I am going to be doing my survival guide/tips on making sure you have the best possible time at summer festivals this year while being safe. I'm not trying to scare anyone from going, I just think it's important to be real about what COULD happen to make sure where possible it doesn't.

I saw the below infographic by Pryers Solictors on this blog post by Six out of Ten Mag which perfectly breaks down the main hazards and I will talk a little bit about each one you need to be aware of.

1. Falling Objects

There are risks of things such as scaffolding or electrical equipment falling near the stage so while it's great to be at the front from a viewing perspective, make sure you keep your wits about you and I personally would stay clear of the "mosh pit" where people often do a lot of pushing and shoving which is potentially how things get knocked over.

2. Projectile Injuries

These are difficult to steer clear of because they are unexpected and not something you really have any control over. This is one of my absolute pet hates at festivals, when you get a bunch of idiots that start throwing around things like bottles, it's such an inconsiderate thing to do and could really end up hurting someone. Most festivals seem to have banned glass bottles this year which is really positive but still, if you see anyone near you throwing anything move away if you can and alert a steward nearby.

3. Crushed in Crowds

This is something really difficult to avoid as being in a crowd is inevitable but try not to be in one alone. Go with a group of friends and make sure you are all looking out for each other and that noone gets seperated or trips over and gets trampled. Also if you are at the front be aware that you run the risk of being forced forward into the stage/barriers as the crowd will naturally move forward towards the entertainment with everyone desperate for a better view. You can really get hurt with things like bruised ribs, I would never go at the front for this reason as personally I don't think the view is worth the risk.

4. Moshing Injuries

Similar to the projectile injuries this is another thing that is unexpected and purely a result of other people behaving badly. If people start dancing erratically or acting violently you need to remove yourself from the situation, move away and make a steward aware. People that do this kind of thing are selfish and ruin other people's festival experience so if festival staff are on the ball they will want to stamp this out as quickly as possible.
5. Drunk Drivers

I cannot even begin to stress how dangerous it is to drive after drinking alcohol and I think doing it is literally intolerable and is putting other people's lives at risk. If you see or know of someone drunk at a festival that is about to drive you need to alert festival staff immediately. Also keep in mind that even if someone is not acting visibly drunk they may still be over the limit even hours after drinking especially if they have been up late partying so be very alert driving around the area where the festival site is.

If you are in a group of friends, try and make an agreement that on the last night the person that will be driving you all home stays under the limit or sober, it's simply not worth the risk. If you want to drink freely then consider travelling via public transport where you will not be in control of a moving vehicle and wont put other road users in danger.

5. Slips, Trips and Falls

Be alert for things like wires, uneven ground and rubbish you can trip over and if it rains make sure your footwear has adequate grip so you don't lose your footing.

6. Bodily Harm Assaults

If you witness or experience this you need to alert festival staff immediately and also the police so it can properly logged and a statement taken. It's completely unacceptable for people to behave violently and it is against the law to assault someone so needs to be taken really seriously.

7. Crowd Surfing Injuries

First of all, if you are thinking about doing this, don't. It's as simple as that, why put yourself and other people at risk by doing it when it's completely unnecessary. It's illegal in some countries and a lot of festivals ban it and will remove you from the premises for doing it. I don't really need to point out the dangers but if someone crowd surfs you risk being kicked or hurt whether on purpose or accidentally and if you are crowd surfing yourself you could have clothing ripped or damaged, belongings stolen and of course potentially fall and injure yourself and others.

I would say those 7 are the main things to be aware of, it's sad really because if you were to weigh up the risks and dangers it barely seems worth going. You might as well watch the performers from the comfort of your home on TV and get a better view and save some money while you're at it. Saying that the festival atmosphere has a real energy and buzz that you just can't get anywhere else, where everyone is just there to enjoy themselves and the music. It can be a really amazing time, feeling like you are a part of something really awesome and connecting with your favourite artists and fellow fans.

I have definitely cut down on the number of festivals I attend nowadays and try and look out for one day festivals closer to home so I can get enough of the experience without going overboard. As I get older I can see myself stopping going altogether, it's already true that I don't enjoy them as much as I did 5 years ago and my tastes have change in terms of music and partying.

Are you planning to go to any festivals this year? Let me know below and also any tips you have for staying safe and enjoying yourself.

Summer Festivals - Welly Warehouse

Hey Everyone!

Today I have the latest installment of my festival series and we are going to be looking at a selection of wellington boots from the Welly Warehouse

I think we have all probably experienced the not so pleasurable experience of muddy fields, getting your best sandals wrecked or taking boots that were comfortable in the shop but in actuality feel like a cheese grater against your heel. I guess that's why wellies are now a staple for most people when they go to festivals.

Here are my top picks from the selection on the Welly Warehouse site to hopefully offer some inspiration!

First up are the Mooi En Lief Feather Festival Wellies, these look awesome with the feather detailing which is removable so you can wear them with or without to switch it up.

Next are these funky Talolo Paisley Vibe Cowboy Wellies, I love the cowboy boots shape and the print is so cool and boho.

Here are the Dr. Martens Drench Rubber Wellies, I love the novelty of these. They are perfect for a punky, rock and roll alternative.

Then there are the Black Crocodile Wellies which are reminiscent of the Hunter for Jimmy Choo ones but a fraction of the price at just £11.99!

Finally are the Black Zip Wellies, I was kindly sent a pair to try out for myself and hopefully attest to their quality so read on to find out what I thought.

Design wise, they are a matt black and in a shorter height so fit my calves nicely without needing to undo the zips for a bit more room. They have a nice thick sole and grippy bottom, I tested them out walking the dogs and they were perfectly comfortable when navigating the overgrowth that is the field we visit.

I like the red accents with the zips, while I don't undo them they still add a nice detail and the red and black reminds me of the famous Cheryl Cole fight for this love outfit. Do you know the one I mean?

I've probably been wearing these now for a few weeks (while writing this, I photographed them new before they got all muddied up!), and I've had a positive experience. They are nice and comfortable, haven't worn anywhere and are sturdy to walk in. I am dying to get myself a pair of black welly socks to go over the tops and keep my feet even more snug, I can definitely see myself wearing them for things like bootsales and dog walking on a regular basis.

I hope you liked this post, I'd love to know what wellies you guys all have. Let me know in the comments below or tweet me a pic @sallywills. If you want to check out any of the styles featured above hop on over to https://www.wellywarehouse.co.uk for the full selection and some fab prices.

Summer Festivals - Protecting Your Phone

Hey Everyone!

I hope you've all had a good week, mine has been really exciting actually for reasons I can't share right now but hopefully will be able to in a couple of weeks! Eek!

Today I wanted to share the latest installment in my festival series, a solution to making sure you can take as many selfies as you want in the knowledge that if someone nudges into you (as often happens), or if you accidentally drop it, your phone is protected. I'm talking about the Tech21 Impactology Patriot case*.

The case has built in drop protection up to 3ft/4m, all round case and screen protection and is dust and splash proof. Pretty awesome for a phone case and perfect for a festival setting in which I know I'm constantly aware of my phone, making sure it's secure and wont be knocked out of my hand by accident within the crowd. I've seen it happen far too many times and it really spoils your time if you have a smashed screen and you want to take photos etc.

As you can see there are three parts to the case, the front, back and also a holster which you can use to clip on to your belt or pocket etc.

With the case on, your phone isn't going to look bulky or be hard to hold, for such a high level of protection it's surprisingly compact and sits nicely in your hand.

I'm definitely planning on taking this case with me this summer and will probably use it after that for things like gigs or concerts etc where it's likely I'll be in a crowd scenario.

I hope you guys found this helpful and if you would like to check out the range of cases Tech21 have to offer (they cover all sorts of models/brands of phones), you can visit their website https://www.tech21.com

Summer Festivals - Tobar Light up bunting

Hi Everyone,

I had a fantastic response to my To The Beach Series so I couldn't resist doing the same for the Summer Festival season that is now upon us. Over the course of this series we will be looking at all sorts of products that can enhance your experience and we will round off with a final "Survival Guide" of tips and things to be aware of from my past festival trips.

Today I'm going to show you a nifty tent accessory that looks in a word AWESOME, is affordable and just something that is totally something I would use. The product I am talking about is the Tobar Light Up Bunting*.

Doesn't it look fab? The best thing about it is that it's completely portable and doesn't have a mains plug, it's powered by 3 AAA batteries making it perfect to take away to a festival or BBQ or picnic.

The total length of the bunting is 3 metres and it comes with a set of handy hooks to keep the flags in place.

As you can see below, the bunting is lovely and colourful even without the lights switched on, so a cool feature for either day or night.

I hope this gives you a nice idea for something you can take along to your next summer festival and make your tent look amazingly instagrammable (is that even a word?!).

Thanks for reading and talk soon.
